Bengert, William "Bill" Charles
The world lost a wonderful man on December 12, 2017 when William "Bill" Charles Bengert passed away in Mesa, AZ after a valiant 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer. All who knew him will forever cherish the real Bill; a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Bill was a meticulous home renovator, gardener and cook. He loved to travel and was an avid golfer and fisherman. Bill was born in Phoenix, AZ on February 8, 1948 to Edward and Elizabeth Bengert. He earned a degree in Business Finance from Arizona State University (Go Devils!). In 1985, he married the love of his life Mary S. Connors and shared in the joy of raising two children with her, Melanie and Patrick. He retired as Deputy Finance Director from the City of Phoenix at age 53. He created a second home in Show Low, AZ where he turned his hobby and passion for golf into a retirement job at the Torreon Golf Club. "Starter Bill", as he was affectionately known on the course, worked and played at Torreon to enjoy the beautiful mountain summers. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bill is preceded in death by his loving parents. He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Melanie (Jon) Dunmar, son Patrick (Alysia) Staar, sister Anne (Emmerick) Szamosi and his grandchildren Mikayla, Karsten, Dylan and Jacob and his beloved pets Milo, Willow and Grayson. Celebration of Life services will be held Tuesday, December 19 at 10:00 am with reception to follow at 11:00am at the Lakeshore Mortuary 1850 S. Dobson Road Mesa, AZ 85202. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Virginia G. Piper Honor Health and Hospice of the Valley . As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to Virginia G.
