Roy Arnold

Birth:  Nov. 2, 1947
Phoenix
Maricopa County
Arizona, USA
Death:  May 3, 1969, Vietnam

Son of Dorothy Lee Lard and Jack Dee Arnold. Roy was a twin and completed high school and one year of college. Then he entered the U.S. Army, and was a S/Sgt., serving in Vietnam. He was killed in action 3 May 1969 and his body returned home, with burial on 14 May 1969.

ARIZONA DEATHS

Rites Scheduled for Sgt. Roy Lee Arnold

Rites for Sgt. Roy Lee Arnold, 21, killed in action May 3 in Vietnam, 52 days after arriving there with his Army unit, will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Grimshaw's Bethany Chapel.

Burial with military honors by the West High School ROTC color guard and the Ft. Huachuca funeral detail will be in Glendale Resthaven Park Cemetery.

Sgt. Arnold, of 5704 N. 23rd Ave., was graduated from the non-commissioned officers' school at Ft. Benning, Ga., before volunteering for Vietnam, where he had been stationed since March 12.

Born in Phoenix, he was graduated from West High School where he had taken ROTC four years, and attended Phoenix College a year.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack D. Arnold; his twin sister, Mrs. Joy D. Ritchie; a brother, Jack D(sic)., all of Phoenix; grandparents, Mrs. Annie Arnold of Phoenix, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Lard of Mayer and Mrs. Garnett Lard of Los Angeles.

George Buchmann

Roy was a good friend in high school and basic training.  He had a ready smile and a helping hand for everyone.  He was a blessing to all who knew him.

Kenneth Ralph Cain

Roy and I met in First Grade and were good friends throughout High School. I went to College, He went to war. I gave Roy a Bible just before he deployed to Nam. It was found among his personal posessions.
