School Story or best memories of your time at West, who was your favorite teacher?
I arrived at West from Coolidge High School in the middle of my Junior year. My arrival was anticipated by members of the choir. I had a my first solo in the very next concert. After being consistently number 2 or 3 in a class of 100 in the little cotton farming town, I graduated something like 56th in a class of 565. Still, West afforded a wealth of opportunities for me to grow my talents.
Many good teachers to choose from but Verne Jones has always stood out. He didn't just dump history on us; he forced us to dump it on ourselves, to do the research, to come up with questions, ultimately, I believe, to think for ourselves.
